Marilyn Thornton was born in San Francisco, California. Her family moved to rural southern Ohio before she was two. She grew up on a small farm with a great love for God and His creations, especially earth's natural beauty and its many lovely plants and animals. She began drawing and painting prior to entering public schools at age five.
She studied education and art at Ohio University, completing a master's degree Magna Cum Laude. Some of her favorite courses include: drawing and design, painting, sculpture, watercolor, and lithography.
The artist's preference of media and style have evolved throughout her career. At the present her favorite medium is watercolor on paper. She describes her painting style as "simplified realism with a touch of dreamy imagination".
Marilyn enjoys creating personalized art pieces for others. Her works include: homes, pets, and people portraits; landscapes, landmarks, animals, flowers, and boats as paintings, and note cards, address labels, postcards, and bookmarks.
